Lucy’s Place Project

This innovative motel conversion project for Redwood Park Communities and the David Busby Center is perhaps our most impactful project to date. We turned an old derelict motel into hopeful housing for our communities most vulnerable with a housing-first approach by creating 17 new units for the chronically homeless. This pilot project has shown just what is possible when we work together!

  • Start Date: May, 2018
  • Completion Date: November 2019
  • Project Type: Housing First Motel Conversion

About this Project

The Challenge:

To say this job had challenges would be an understatement! Turning an old motel into 17 legal bachelor suites to meet today’s building code seemed almost impossible BUT with our incredible team, some creative thinking and a whole lot of work we made it happen and we are so proud of this project!

We also need to give credit and a huge thank you to all the amazing, talented and generous community of trades, designers, building department staff and volunteers who came together and made this project a success! This was a team effort.

  • 17 units to the chronically homeless
  • Over 200 hours of training
  • Hundreds of volunteer hours

“But perhaps most important is the fact that 19 people who spent last winter staying in shelters or outside now have a safe, affordable, hopeful place to call home, and have built a strong and vibrant community of support.”
